Day 9 Cathlamet, WA to Astoria, OR (Astoria/Warrenton KOA)
Today’s miles: 42
Miles to date: 402
Days left to ride: 31
Today was a great ride!! We said goodbye to Washington and hello to Oregon. We had a short 42-mile day with several long but not very steep hills to climb. We started with a short 5-mile ride over Puget Island to a ferry that got us over to Oregon. From there we rode on busy highway 30 and encountered the first and longest (2.5 miles) climb of the day. The traffic was heavy, but most cars and trucks gave us plenty of room. I was riding with Scott and Mac and at the bottom of the first hill we turned off and Scott was nowhere in sight. Mac and I kept riding and we found out later that Scott had a flat near the bottom of the downhill. He eventually caught up to us in Astoria near the end of the ride. The weather was nice and sunny, cool in the morning warming up by early afternoon.
Mac was also having issues with his bike so he found a new ride to Mexico (see photo below).
We are staying in a nice KOA campsite in Astoria where will we call home for the next couple of nights. Tomorrow we have a day off and some if not all of us we be shuttled into Astoria to explore the town.
The views were great, but due to the traffic I didn’t stop much for photos, but here are some from today’s ride:
