Day 12 Manzanita, OR (Nehalem Bay State Park) to Cape Lookout State Park, OR
Today’s miles: 42
Miles to date: 489
Days left to ride: 29
It got cold last night the temperature was in the low/mid 40s and was cold when we got up. We rode in heavy fog when we first started riding that kept things very cool. The sun finally burned away the fog sometime in late morning.
We had a short ride today and relatively flat with only one large hill to climb. We rode on 101 most of the way and on a few side roads to get a break from the traffic. There was a lot to see after the fog burned off with great views on the ocean and coastline. We road through the towns of Nehalem, Wheeler, Rockaway Beach, Bay City, and Tillamook. In Tillamook we stopped at the Tillamook cheese factory for a tour of their production line and the history of the company. We sampled some of the cheese and had lunch. After that we were off to climb the only hill of the day. The hill turned out to be on a part paved and part gravel road the was steep. The road was in very bad shape, and we had to walk the bikes to the top and part way down. Then it was only a few more miles to our camp stee at Cape Lookout State Park, OR.
