Day 21 Eureka, CA (Days Inn) to Weott, CA (Burlington CG, Humbolt Redwoods SP)

Day 21 Eureka, CA (Days Inn) to Weott, CA (Burlington CG, Humbolt Redwoods SP)

Today’s miles: 57

Miles to date: 955

Days left to ride: 20

Today I was back riding with Mac and Scott and it was another beautiful day, sunny and warm an got into the 80’s later in the day.  We rode a shot time on 101 but mostly on side roads.  We rode through the Avenue of Giants with amazing giant Redwood Forest all around us.  The trees are huge and tall. The canopy prevents a lot of light from getting through so photos are hard to take.  We had several short be steep hills to climb today and I had to walk parts of two of them.

It was a fantastic day!!

Here are a few photos from today’s ride:

Day 20 Elk Prairie State Park, CA to Redwood Coast Cabin and RV park

Day 20 Elk Prairie State Park, CA to Eureka, CA (Days Inn) Redwood Coast Cabin and RV park

Today’s miles: 53 46

We had a change in our destination for tonight’s stay.  We are camping at Redwood Coast Cabin and RV park with several fewer miles to ride instead of staying at Days Inn in Eureka.

Today was sunny all day cool in the morning and warmed up nicely later in the day.  I rode by myself today (just needed some alone time).  It was a beautiful day with most of the riding off 101 and back roads, paved trails, and bike paths.  There were a few hills to climb but short and not to steep.  The rout took us along the cost with amazing views and I stopped many times to take in the views and to take some photos.  There was one paved bike trail that turned into gravel and dirt that had a tough hill to climb but I made it to the top without having to get off my bike.

Today we broke our run of no rain.  It was cold, rainy, and foggy when we got up and rode out from the hotel.  The rain was light but steady and lasted for a couple of hours, but it remained overcast and cold all day.  We left the hotel as a group, and we all stopped at the California border for a group photo. From there it was I rode with Mac and Scott for the rest of the day.  After the rain stopped, we had some hills to climb so we stopped to remove our rain gear to keep from over heating while climbing the hills.  The first climb was about 5-miles and we had to stop and rest a few times while riding up.  Near the end of the day, we had a 3 mile climb with a 5 mile decent going down the other side which took us all the way to out camp sites at Elk Prairie State Park.

We rode a lot on 101 but also on some nice quite side roads through some nice neighborhoods.

Update

We had no cell service yesterday and tonight I was on shopping and cooking detail and we just got done putting everything a way for the night.  I have to get up early tomorrow morning to make coffee and set out breakfast and lunch items.  It was a great but a long day and I'm wiped out.  I will work on updating this blog over the the next day or so if we have cell service.  We are ridding through areas that will have limited cell service.

Thanks for following.

Today was filled with amazing views.  Unfortunately, today was also filled with not so amazing fog and mist that prevented us from seeing the amazing views.

The ride was good but the weather not so much.  It was cold most of the day with heavy fog and mist. We only had one large 3-mile climb and several smaller ones. We rode mainly on 101 all day and rode over a couple of bridges.  One of the bridges was the highest bridge in Oregon we great views that we couldn’t see.

The fog started to burn off late in the day, so we did get to see some of cost just before we got to our destination of Brookings, OR.  We have a day off tomorrow and we are staying inside at the Brookings Inn for the next two nights.

Here are a few photos from todays ride:

Today was another great day on the bike. We rode both on 101 that kept us inland, but we also rode on some side roads that brought us back to the cost.  The weather was great, it was cool in the morning, warming up later in the day with sunny skies and no fog.  The views were amazing along the coast, and we stopped many times for photos and to enjoy the views.  Most of the climbs today were in the first 20 miles with the rest being mostly flat with a few small climbs.

Tonight, we are camping at Humbug Mtn State Park.
